Flashback 2 is a digital delay effect pedal by TC Electronic. It features seven delay algorithms, looper mode and three slots for TonePrints. The delay modes are:
- 2290: emulation of TC Electronic 2290 released in 1985
- Analog: Emulation of an analog bucket-brigade delay
- Tape: Emulation of a tape delay, including pitch-shifting when changing delay time
- Dynamic: Same as 2290 but the wet signal level follows the input signal level
- Modulated: sends wet signal through chorus
- Crystal: shifts the echoes up an octave through each delay loop
- Reverse: repeats recorded chunks in reverse
Along with delay type switch Flashback 2 has three knobs and a three-position switch:
- Delay time
- Feedback amount
- Level (dry/wet mixer)
Sub-division switch allows to half the delay time or enable “ping-pong” effect where echoes alternate between left and right channel.
TonePrint function allows to upload sound presets via the included USB data cable using PC/Mac application or from an iPhone/Android app using guitar pickups. TC Electronic website has a collection of TonePrints by famous musicians to download (over 200 toneprints are for Flashback 2 specifically).
MASH is a technology patented by TC Electronic allowing to use the switch button as sort of an expression pedal. It uses two magnets inside the button to provide the expression signal. the effect of the Mash function depends on the mode selected. For instance, in “2290” mode MASH freezes the last repetition, in “Reverse” mode it completely mutes dry signal, in “Tape” mode it raises feedback level and in “MOD” it increases the modulation amplitude.
