TS9 Tube Screamer (commonly referred, TS tubescreamer) is an overdrive pedal manufactured by Ibanez in Japan. It is a re-issue of the classic TS9 produced from 1981 which was a successor to TS808. TS9 sounds brighter than TS808 due to the modified output stage.
Compared to the distortion pedals of its era, Tube Screamer has milder, softer sound and was used by notable guitarists such as Steve Ray Vaughan and Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys. TS9 was Gary Moore’s most used effect throughout his career.
Original Tube Screamer used JRC4558 op-amp by Japan Radio Company which ran out of production soon and was replaced by more commonly available op-amps and has a certain myth around it, gained almost a cult-like status.
